Medan (Indonesia) - 4D/3N - Rating: Easy

Thu 01-Feb-2018

Group size: Maximum 40 pax

This fun-filled Sumatra event starts early morning after arriving in

Medan airport. Unlike last year we will get the chance to stretch the

legs as we will hike two mountains before heading to Berastagi town.

Both, Bukit Gajah Bobok and Bukit Gundul, offer splendid views over

Lake Toba. The hikes, despite being uphill, are not too long and not to

strenuous. Certainly within the scope of beginners and less-

experienced hikers.

Later that afternoon, or early evening, we will proceed to Kota

Berastagi where we will have dinner. Those who are interested can

join us for a dip in the hot springs on the slopes of Mount Sibayak. We

overnight in a local hotel.

We have to wake up early the next morning to start our trek to

Gunung Sibayak. It is one of Indonesia's most accessible volcanoes,

2212 meters asl, with a small acid crater lake. Hopefully we can watch

the sunrise from the crater rim.

If the weather is on our side we will have a clear view on the since 2013 very active volcano Sinabung.

Although Sibayak's last eruption was more than a century ago, there still is geothermal activity with steam

vents and hot springs. It is relatively easy to climb.

After breakfast, we'll have a transfer to Kabanjahe and the famous Sipiso-piso waterfall. This waterfall is

the result of a small underground river of the Karo plateau. The river hurls itself from a cave in the side of

the lake Toba caldera some 120 meters (360 feet) down to lake level. This fact earns it the title for the

highest waterfall in Indonesia.

A very short hike will bring us to a nearby vantage point which offers great vistas of the fall and Lake Toba

before we descend to the whirling pool.

After that we've scheduled a short stop at the Taman Alam Lumbini, a replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda in

Myanmar.

Next on the itinerary will be the famous Fruits/Flowers/Vegetables Market in Berastagi.

Next to Gundaling Hill with amazing views on the iconic volcanoes Gunung Sinabung and the earlier that

day climbed Gunung Sibayak. After that we'll head for Medan where we have dinner and spend the night.

After early breakfast on the third day, we proceed to Binjai, Namu Ukur. After the local guide's briefing we

hike to Tongkat Waterfalls for lunch and then head back to a meet point before proceeding further to

Kolam Abadi.

One of the highlights during this jungle hike is the climb of the steep bamboo stairs before reaching the

Tongkat Waterfalls.

The waterfall area is an ideal place to check the content of our lunchbox...

After lunch, be prepared for an adrenaline rush during the 45 minutes body rafting to reach the Tero-Tero

Waterfalls. In the late afternoon we return to Medan.

The fourth day we check out after breakfast and leave the hotel for a Medan city tour before heading to

Medan International Airport around noon.

Physical fitness is a prerequisite but you don't need to be an athlete! If you are passionate about hiking,

quite adventurous and like a mixture of action and relaxation, this one is for you...

Although this event is suitable for “less experienced hikers”, be honest to yourself. So don't confirm for this

event if you have never ever hiked before...
