Mt Batur (Moderate), Mt Agung (Very hard) - Bali

Volcanoes - 3D/2N

Mon 30-Apr-2018

Group size: Maximum 20 pax

We will scale the two most famous volcanoes of Bali in one short

trip... We leave Kuala Lumpur with the last flight to Denpasar and

upon arrival we will be transferred to the northeast of the island.

Mount Batur (1717m asl) is still an active volcano that saw its last

eruption in the year 2000. It is located in a beautiful natural setting

with a lake and a 700 meter tall active volcano above the surface of

the water; all in its caldera.

We will start the relatively easy hike of Mount Batur around 03:30am.

That should give us ample time to reach the summit after some few,

but short steep sections to witness the sunrise.

Since it will be dark on the way up, enjoy the scenery to the fullest

when we make our way down again.

Once we reach the lake area again, we will check in the hostel and

have a well-deserved sleep. Recharge your 'batteries' as you will have

to be ready around midnight for the Mount Agung hike.

Mount Agung stands 3,031m above sea level and is the highest volcano on the island of Bali. Unlike Mount

Batur, Agung is far more harder to climb. We will be transferred to the base of the volcano and start our

climb latest by 02:00am.

Although the mountain can be hiked without any technical assistance and the chances of encountering

AMS are almost nil, Agung is known to be a hard nut to crack, so be prepared.

Although the last major eruption dates back to 1963, there is quite some seismic activity lately. Luckily May

2018 is still a long way to go...

Many Balinese believe that Agung is a replica of Mount Meru, the sacred cosmological mountain -

considered to be the centre of the universe.

We start our hike at the Pasar Agung Temple and it will take us between 3 to 4 hours to the rim, ascending

about 2,000 meters. This trail is not that tough as the Besakih route, but don't underestimate this climb...!

The trail ends about 100 meters below the actual summit, but the views are still excellent in all directions,

as well as down into the actual crater.

If the weather is clear and no clouds are obscuring our vision we will not only be able to see the other

volcanoes in Bali, especially Batur and Abang, but also Lombok's icon, Mount Rinjani.

After our return to the base of the mountain around noon, we will be able to freshen up and there will be

time for lunch before we will be transferred back to the airport for our evening flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Physical fitness is MORE than a prerequisite! If you are passionate about hiking, you will be encouraged to

stretch your limits and push some boundaries.

This hike is ABSOLUTELY NOT suitable for "beginners" and “less experienced hikers”, so be honest to

yourself. So don't confirm for this event if this is the first time that you want to find out what hiking is all

about...

Especially the hike of Mount Agung IS a challenge. Don't underestimate the difficulty of the hike and don't

overestimate yourself!  located in its own caldera, four of which are still active. And for sure Mount Bromo

is the most famous one.
